NAV Training Flight

Post by James Larkin »

Hi All,

So today I took out -005 and went for a burn up the coast to Hamilton Island with a planned diversion to RK. Airborne out of AMB we waited until passing 1600ft and commenced the left turn for BN and turned left again to join the Q26 to HM. During the cruise BN-TBP came online so this made for a little bit more fun with having to throw in ATC comms whilst trying to get my head around using the FMC to its full potential. Once I had planned for the RNAV-Z for RW14, I requested a reclearance to YBRK, which was approved. The RNAV is quite a simple approach and having set points every 5nm it creates a good descent profile (15nm- Flap 5, Speed 210kts/ 10nm- Flaps 15, Gear Down, Speed 170kts/ 5nm, LDG Flaps, VREF+WND Component compensation).

After completing the missed approach, we climbed back to F310, and made way for MK and then to join the 158 inbound radial for the VOR R15 approach.

Here is a shot of WGTL68 climbing away from Hamo after the missed approach.
